Release green kinetic energy in the desert -- Chinese enterprises help Jordan's green energy development
Time:2022-10-18

In the vast desert of southern Jordan, towering wind turbines are scattered everywhere. As the leaves rotate, they release the vitality in the desert and produce clean energy.

One of the wind power stations is Jordan Shubak Wind Power Station managed and operated by China funded Three Gorges International. According to Jiang Songwei, the engineer of Three Gorges International Jordan New Energy Project, the wind power station will be put into operation in 2021, and can provide Jordan with about 150 million kilowatt hours of clean energy every year.

Jordan is short of energy and mineral resources and has long relied on imports. To this end, the government has vigorously advocated the development of clean energy in recent years. According to the data of Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mines, about 29% of Jordan's total energy output in July this year was clean energy. The country's goal is to increase this proportion to 50% by 2030.

"More and more Chinese enterprises are investing in and undertaking photovoltaic and wind power projects in Jordan, which will help Jordan gradually realize its vision of green development." Mohammed Abu Atier, the national manager of the Jordan New Energy Project of Three Gorges International, told reporters.

He said that the new energy projects of Three Gorges International in Jordan include two wind power projects and one photovoltaic project, with a total installed capacity of 156 megawatts, which is expected to provide 440 million kilowatt hours of green power for Jordan every year.

"In addition, these projects will also help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save water. It is estimated that during the contract period, the project will reduce 7.73 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions and save 13.5 million cubic meters of water resources for Jordan." Abu Atier said.

In the desert area in southern Jordan, which is rich in light resources, the 24 MW photovoltaic project in Jordan undertaken by the Chinese enterprise Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Co., Ltd. was also started in 2021, which is the first photovoltaic power station project undertaken by the Chinese enterprise in Jordan.

Zheng Hongzhi, the Chinese project manager, said that the project uses China's photovoltaic power generation equipment and technology to create a large number of local employment opportunities.

Sudan, the project leader of Jordan Water Authority, the owner, said that after the completion of the power station, it will not only better meet the power demand of the surrounding areas, but also greatly relieve the power pressure of nearby water plants and improve the water supply capacity of the water plant.

"These clean energy projects involving Chinese enterprises have brought tangible benefits to local people." Mahmoud Alhamadiya, the site manager of Shubak Wind Power Station, said that Shubak Wind Power Project alone could meet the needs of about 30000 households and provide more than 100 jobs for surrounding residents.

Zhao Chongchong, the representative of Three Gorges International Jordanian New Energy Project in Jordan, said that in addition to doing a good job in project construction, Chinese enterprises also share technology and management experience by providing internship opportunities and technical training.

Naizar Alhushaman, the on-site operation and maintenance engineer of Shubak Wind Power Station, said, "I often exchange project technical experience with my Chinese colleagues, which has greatly improved my technical level. Our projects are currently operating well, and the participation of Chinese enterprises has made our dream of green development take root."
